SINGLE PLANK TEAKWOOD MUNDUMPETTY OR KAALPETTY
Details
The Mundumpetty (also commonly referred to as a Kaalpetti) is a traditional heritage storage chest from Kerala that was historically used in ancestral homes to preserve valuable family heirlooms, wedding silks, and fine garments. This exquisite vintage piece is meticulously crafted using premium single-plank teakwood on all sides, resulting in seamless surfaces with no visible joints that highlight the rich, natural wood grain. To reinforce its structural integrity and enhance its antique charm, it features extensive ornate brass inlay work, heavy corner strapwork, sturdily built side handles, and a central brass padlock hasp. Typically measuring 48 inches in length, 24 inches in width, and 24 inches in height, these robust dowry trunks were often passed down through generations, serving as both highly durable utility storage and prestigious statement pieces of Kerala's expert artisan craftsmanship.
